24th Annual Extravaganza

Celebration of Choices

24th Annual Extravaganza

The 24th Annual Extravaganza was truly a 'Celebration of Choices' on June 7. This is a one day free event for people with physical disabilities to choose from over 24 activities. A few of the favorite choices were water skiing, handcycling, kayaking, air rifles, jet skiing and fishing from boat and/or catfish tank.

Registration opened at 9AM with a line of participants already formed. Each participant gets an activity card which gets punched when an activity is performed. Also a ticket goes into a bucket for a raffle at the end of the day which encourages people to participate. Partaking in over 24 activities takes most of the day and builds a hunger, so we stop for a picnic lunch. A granddad of one of our participants offered his cooker for hamburgers and hotdogs.

Our participants range in age from 4 years to over 70 years old. Their disabilities are from spinal injuries, birth (spina bifida, cerebral palsy), muscular dystrophies and amputations.

This year the grand prize was a complete game center with 50" TV, X-Box One, Bose sound system and gaming chair. It was won by a young man with severe cerebral palsy who plays video games most days for hours. Turning POINT and the audience were very excited about the win.

The day prior to the Extravaganza, Turning POINT held the Randy Snow Memorial 3 on 3 Invitational (won by Rose Hollerman, Brain Wofford & Dave Kiley), Trap Shoot Tournament (won by Chris Shields), Billiards Tournament (won by Jon Bostic and Ken Mumford) and the 4th Annual Randy Snow Free Throw Tournament. Jimmy Moceri barely won the free throw tournament over local junior Tyler Buysse. Rose Hollerman won the women's division.

The Turning POINT Extravaganza is a tribute to our friend Randy Snow. This was a favorite event of his due to the fact it was open to all levels of disabilities, skill was not involved. In fact this event focuses on getting the newly injured involved and opening their world of outdoor activities. This event is followed up by Turning POINT by sponsoring camp outs, fishing/boating bi-weekly, handcycling monthly and various other seasonal activities. All of which Randy loved.
